Virginia

Throughout the session, PPMW joined Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia and other partners to support a policy agenda expanding access to reproductive health care in Virginia.

After years of enduring medically unnecessary and ideologically driven restrictions on abortion care designed to make care less accessible, Virginians saw the successful passage of the Reproductive Health Protection Act. This Act included repealing of a 24-hour waiting period, mandated biased counseling, mandated ultrasound requirement, and the removal of other targeted regulations on abortion providers (TRAP) laws. The repeals went into effect on July 1, 2020, meaning that Virginia patients can now access abortion without the burden of these politically motivated restrictions.
