SIHLE

SIHLE Plus is broken into six sessions that emphasize self-care, ethnic pride, sexual reproductive health literacy, communication, dating violence and more. SIHLE Plus is also more inclusive of gender identity and sexual orientation. For the duration of the six week program, participants build community, move through the curriculum, and have opportunities for conversation and mentorship with PPMW staff.

Youth in the SIHLE Plus program learn about reducing risky sexual behaviors through interactive discussions and activities to enhance awareness of STI/HIV prevention. PPMW’s evaluation from the 2019/2020 school year shows that 80% of participants had an increase in knowledge of sexual and reproductive health topics. PPMW staff teach risk reduction strategies such as abstaining from sex, using condoms consistently, communication skills, and having fewer sex partners. SIHLE Plus is an interactive program with youth using role-play and cognitive rehearsal, practicing safer-sex conversations, and making skits about communication styles and healthy relationships.
